Situation: In 2005, BioPointe was engaged by MGI Pharma, a Bloomington, MN based Biopharmaceutical Company, to assist in expanding its national sales force. MGI was launching a new drug called the Gliadel® Wafer. Gliadel® is a biodegradable wafer containing the chemotherapy agent carmustine, or BCNU, approved for the treatment of high grade malignant gliomas as an adjunct to surgery and radiation. As Gliadel® dissolves, BCNU provides site-specific chemotherapy. The MGI management team needed to rapidly deploy experienced oncology sales professionals to increase acceptance and usage of Gliadel®.

Objective: To identify oncology sales professionals with new product launch experience, strong KOL relationships, and documented track records of success.

Action: Due to the urgency of the project, BioPointe executed a rapid deployment program. Through its national network of executive search firms, BioPointe engaged affiliate agencies that specialized in the oncology space. The selected agencies identified, sourced, and screened candidates as swiftly as possible. BioPointe consultants conducted secondary phone screens to insure the candidates met all the candidate profiling parameters before forwarding to the hiring managers.
